Sinsheimer Children’s Rights Fellowship
The Sinsheimer Children’s Rights Fellowship is offered on an annual basis to a recent graduate of NYU School of Law. The Fellowship lasts for one year with the possibility of extension for a second year. The Fellowship offers an outstanding opportunity for new lawyers committed to a career in public service and to protecting the rights of children and individuals with disabilities. The Fellow serves as a staff attorney representing low-income parents and students in special education cases while receiving intensive training and supervision from PFCR’s experienced staff. Fellowship applications are received in the fall of the applicant’s third year of law school or terminal clerkship year for work beginning the following September. Sponsorship for Post-Graduate Legal Fellowships
PFCR accepts applications from third-year law students or current judicial clerks seeking post-graduate legal fellowships, including the Skadden Fellowship, Equal Justice Works Fellowship, Kirkland & Ellis New York City Public Service Fellowships at Columbia Law School and NYU School of Law, and any other relevant fellowship. We welcome applicants with proposed fellowship projects that are consistent with PFCR’s mission to serve the needs of low-income students with disabilities. PFCR also will work with well-qualified applicants to develop a project proposal. Individuals seeking sponsorship may apply by sending a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to Executive Director Todd Silverblatt at email@example.com with the subject line “Sponsorship for Post-Graduate Legal Fellowship.” The cover letter must specify the fellowship(s) for which the individual is seeking sponsorship and describe the proposed fellowship project, if applicable. Sponsorship proposals will be considered on a rolling basis and should be submitted as far in advance of the fellowship application deadline as possible. PFCR has completed its sponsorship selection process for fellowships to begin in the fall of 2017. PFCR will next accept sponsorship applications for fellowships to begin in the fall of 2018.
Law Student Internships
PFCR offers law student internships during the summer and during the academic year. Summer internships require full-time work for ten weeks. Summer internship applications are considered beginning in the fall for the following summer. Academic-year internships require a commitment of between five and ten hours per week and may last for one semester or the full academic year. Academic-year internship applications are considered on a rolling basis. All internship candidates must be current law students and must have a demonstrated interest in working with low-income clients and/or individuals with disabilities. Preference will be given to second- and third-year students and to those with experience in the field of special education. All internships are unpaid. If the intern is eligible for academic credit or outside funding for the internship, PFCR will complete any paperwork necessary to ensure the award of academic credit or funding. Students may apply for internships at PFCR by sending a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to Executive Director Todd Silverblatt at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Summer Internship” or “Academic Year Internship,” as appropriate.
PFCR is an equal employment opportunity employer.
